It is so easy to get busy about many things and miss what God is trying to teach me. I get going from this place to that place, lost in a world of thought, focusing on the issues at hand and miss that Jesus want me to rest at His feet. We are in constant motion and when we stop, we have a guilty feeling that maybe we should be doing something, but in the stopping, maybe it is time to reflect on the things that Jesus has and is doing for us. Stop the constant motion and allow God to cover us with His loving touch, His words. Maybe it isn't actually getting in the word, maybe it is 30 minutes of saying Lord what do you have for me today?
You are right our brains then take over and in the silence start thinking about everything we have to do. The verse that comes to mind: 2 Corinthians 10:5 "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." Focus on the One that has brought you to this place, He has brought you through so much. Just lay down what you want and change it for what He wants. He wants time to minister to our spirits, to refresh us, to captivate us.
We can be so caught up in the "I" or "ME", that we miss that Jesus wants to set us free from all of that and wants to replace all of that with Himself. I can imagine how Jesus felt, He was alone in the garden struggling with the thought that He had to die for us. It wasn't an easy choice for Him, He had to chose to lay down His life to save us from ourselves. He asked God isn't there another way, isn't there something else I can do instead of dying? He cried out to God, Father, help Me. He was all alone and during this all, the disciples were sleeping, they didn't really care what He was going through, they only thought of themselves. They were tired from there day, they were wondering what this day had for them, they didn't know, but they wanted only to comfort themselves. Jesus said keep watch, but they didn't keep watch, the only thing they saw was there eyelids. Jesus has told us to keep watch, pray without ceasing, to focus on Him, to love Him more. Are we doing that or are we only worried about ourselves?
How many times have we forgotten what Jesus did for us, we get so busy about our life, that we forget to acknowledge and thank Him moment by moment. We forget those around us have feelings and we focus on ourselves, we miss the very things that Jesus was trying to teach us about. He wants us to put Him first, not ourselves, not all the millions of things we have to do. Have you ever thought about how much you thank Him in your day? Is it just in the morning when you do devotions and then when you go to bed? He wants us to pray, keep Him in the center. I find that car rides are a great time to focus on praying, to focus on Him.
The radio does not have to be on, just more things to be distracted by, focus on Him.
If we are so focus on our life, that we miss the meaning of life, then we miss what God is doing for us and in us. It comes down to the choices that we make, who comes first? It isn't a choice we make once, we make it moment by moment. We have to follow through, it is being a living example of Jesus, moment by moment.
