I see what Jesus meant when He said Matthew 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." I have found in my life, that things that other people do that bother me are generally what I do as well. I need to take action before pointing someone else flaws out and ask God to help me. I also need to ask God to show me when something bothers me about someone else, if I am wrong in that offense as well. I must be willing to look at myself first, before pointing fingers at other people. It is truly easier to see others who make those offenses, but so much hard to look at myself. I have to be willing to look at my faults and flaws, because I can't help someone else, until I am willing to change.
He also said in Matthew 7:12 "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." They are in the same chapter in Matthew, could it be because it is very important. I need to be willing to look at my actions and if they are not how I want to be treated, then I should not treat someone else that way too.
Jesus put all these things in the Bible for a reason in 2 Timothy 3:16 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,". Not just for me to read and ignore, but for me to act upon. There are no areas that give me only do this when I feel like it, but do it all the time.
This time of the year we tend to be more thankful that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We see all that He did for us, but each day we should see that He came to save us from ourselves, He gave us a choice and He gives us grace to make the right choices. Jesus is the reason for every season, not just Christmas or Easter, but for every day. He is the reason we are here.
Thank you Lord for sending Your Son to die on the cross for my sins, thank you for picking me. Help me to put You first, to allow others to be more important than myself. Help me to die so that you may live in me moment by moment. Help me to surrender to You Jesus, empty me of myself and fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Seeking You first in all I do, not just the easy stuff, but ALL of it. Lord help me to be Your instrument, Your tool.
