Replace Your Head Noise with Your Heart Voice (written by Graham Cooke)

Replace Your Head Noise with Your Heart Voice.

Diminishing stress from our lives is always an inside job. We are in the process of learning how to put off our old nature and put on the new nature of Jesus.
The old nature is a product of our environment and upbringing, contact with a worldly system of values, and our learned behaviors. We take on board negative experiences and traumatic occasions and treat them as though they are the truth about us for all of time.
The old self, until it is replaced in our experience, carries some weight in our personality. It supplies the head-noise, the background tape that runs on a loop incessantly in our thinking. All stress is already on that tape. When situations arise that are difficult for us, the button gets pressed and the old messages about ourselves get played. Stress is the result.

The new nature is a product of Heaven, not of your doing.

It is the way that God thinks about us in Christ. He has nothing but approval for us because that’s why He put us into Christ in the first place—so that we could always be accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6).
The Lord has a way of thinking about us that builds us up, empowers us to grow, and causes us to be constantly renewed in the Spirit. We need never lose heart because our outer man (old self ) is being killed off,  when our inner man (our true self in Jesus) is being renewed day by day (2 Corinthians 4:16).
Each day, in Christ, we are practicing the joyful discipline of being renewed in the spirit of our mind (Ephesians 4:23). That means we are enabling our thinking to come from a source that is full of love for us and wants to see become more of who Jesus is for us.

The new man hears a heart voice, not old head-noise.

We have put on a new self which is renewed in a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him (Colossians 3:10). The true knowledge is that our head-noise belongs to the old man, crucified in Christ, and our new inner voice is made in the image of Jesus. We can only ever be fully transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:2).

I have a blog sent to me from Brilliant Perspectives and this one is so good, I wanted to share it. God has a way to remind us how to walk in His renewing strength, it isn't our own, but His. He is such a good good Father. He is always with us no matter what we are going through He is right there. He hears us even when we may wish He didn't, He knows our thoughts even when we try to hide them, He is a loving Father and He hand picked each of us, because He doesn't want us to perish, but live a life that glorifies Him.
I love the verse Romans 12:2.

Song for the day and more

When we try to do things in our own strength we will grow tired and weary Isaiah 40:30-31 "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." When I look to God for my joy and strength, I allow what I want to be replaced with what Jesus wants, but I must be willing to allow God to change me.

If we look at the plite of the Israelite's we will see there struggles walking and waiting to get into the promise land, they wanted it in their time, they wanted it in their way and they didn't want to follow what God wanted, they were more concerned with how difficult it was and how hard life was, then realizing that God wanted to change them. How often am I like the Israelite's, I grumble and complain about the difficulties of life, I don't want to hear the hard truth, I want the easy, I want people to just not tell me what I am doing wrong, but I want to be coddled like a child, not corrected, not disciplined, I want to get to the promise land with no work. If I just ride the wave and hope that I will get there, not putting any effort into what God wants to do in my life. I want the easy way, but God has shown me over and over again in the Bible what happens to people who want the easy things, they get lost in Egypt. I don't want to be put into slavery in Egypt, I want to hear the hard truths, to grow, to be changed and transformed, not by myself, but by God and the renewing of my mind, moment by moment. Romans 12:2 "2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Do I want the easy ways, do I want to become a slave to the sins as the Israelite's did or do I want to come alive in Jesus? It takes work, it takes making choices and not just going along with the crowd. Do I want to be those that follow or those that lead? I want to lead. A great leader, must first learn how to follow, it isn't about going ahead of the group, but being a part of them. People often think that leading they are going first, but a true leader learners how to lead from within.

God wants us to lead, He wants us to learn and grow. God is trying to change each of us, He wants a people that is strong in Him, not the ones that go along with the crowd. He wants people to learn how to follow Him, the hard truths, before they will be able to lead even the smallest of us. Am I willing to learn how to follow and learn to follow Jesus Christs instructions, He is clear on what He wants, am I walking in His truth or my own?

"Joy Of The Lord"

Though the tears may fall my song will rise
My song will rise to You
Though my heart may fail my song will rise
My song will rise to You
While there's breath in my lungs
I will praise you Lord

In the dead of night I’ll lift my eyes
I’ll lift my eyes to You
Though the waters rise I’ll lift my eyes
I’ll lift my eyes to You
While there's hope in this heart
I will praise You Lord

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

When I cannot see You with my eyes
Let faith arise to You
When I cannot feel Your hand in mine
Let faith arise to You
God of mercy and love
I will praise You Lord

How You shine with glory Lord of light
I feel alive with You
In Your presence now I come alive
I am alive with You
There is strength when I say
I will praise You Lord

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

When sorrow comes my way
You are the shield around me
Always You remain
My courage in the fight

I hear You call my name
Jesus I am coming
Walking on the waves
Reaching for Your light

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

Choices

What does the Bible say about Choices?

Isaiah 30:21 "And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." That verse lines it out, we have to make the choice not to turn right or left, but to walk in the path that God has lade out for us. We have the choice and we need to follow the instructions of the Lord.

Our thoughts may wander, but remember this in written in Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." It says to think on the good things, why because we are human and it is our nature to think on the other things.

We are given fair warning on many accounts in the bible, such as this one in Galatians 6:7-8 "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life." Remember that we are not judged by man and what a man may see, but by God and God sees all things.

When someone yells at us, we have a choice to make, our human nature says yell back, but the Bible talks about this in Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." or in Romans 12:17 "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone." We are reminded that we have a choice, our human nature will desire to do wrong to those that do wrong to us. We see it all around us, but how we respond can set us apart from those people, because we have to make the right choice.

When we are with a group of friends and some of them are doing things that are not worthy of God, we have a choice to walk the way God wants us to walk or to join with the peer pressure. Our world says just do it, but God says Romans 12:2 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." or Galatians 1:10 "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."

It is about making the right choices. The world says we can't do it, but Jesus Christ has come not so we will have to be part of the world, but we will be part of Him, through the renewing of our minds, not just on Sunday, but every day. We need to be willing to allow Him to have His truths in our hearts, not just our minds. I can think I know so much about the Bible, but when the truth is hidden in my heart, they become part of who I am, my daily walk is not for myself, but for the Son of God who lives in me, it is for Jesus Christ. When I just have the knowledge it is not enough, I must have the heart to want to serve Him every day. Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." It can't be about what I want, but Jesus Christ in me.

We must put away our old selves and come alive in Jesus Christ. When we are water baptized it is a symbol of how our old selves are buried and we come alive in Jesus, we must be willing to let ourselves die to be born into Jesus. It is an act of something much greater then what we know. The old self centered way needs to be left in the water and we are filled with the holy spirit. We come alive in Him.

The Eight-Cow Wife

This story I find rather good, because we are what we believe we are. If we constantly think that we are not worth it, that we are not pretty or handsome, no matter what people say to us it is hard to hear, because that is how we have viewed ourselves, but that doesn't mean we can't change. In this story the woman thought she was ordinary, she thought she wasn't special and that is how she lived, until this man came and offered more than what she thought she was worth. Jesus Christ did the same thing for us, we are not worth it, but He says we are, we think we are ugly, but He made us beautiful or handsome. Each of us are made in His own image, when we say we are ugly, what are we saying about God and His handy work? What are we saying that He makes mistakes? Isn't it time to start changing how we see ourselves and start seeing how God sees us? He made each of us in His own image, He formed us in our mothers wombs, He designed us and we have the choice to see ourselves as something or to see ourselves as nothing. He has given us that choice, today, how do you see yourself? Do you tell others you are not beautiful or handsome when they complement you? Is it time to stop listening to the devil and start listening to what God has to say about you? I know it is easy to listen to the devil drag us down, but Jesus wants to set us free from all of that. Take and pray today to see what God is trying desperately to say to you.

I heard a story on my way to work.

The Eight-Cow Wife
by Patricia McGerr,
Adapted and edited from it's original appearance in
Reader’s Digest, February 1988, pp138-141

My trip to the Kiniwata Island in the Pacific was a memorable one. Although the island was beautiful and I had an enjoyable time, the thing I remember most about my trip was the fact "Johnny Lingo gave eight cows for his wife." I’m reminded of it every time I see a woman belittle her husband or a wife wither under her husband’s scorn. I want to say to them, "You should know why Johnny Lingo gave eight cows for his wife."

Johnny Lingo is known throughout the islands for his skills, intelligence, and savvy. If you hire him as a guide, he will show you the best fishing spots and the best places to get pearls. Johnny is also one of the sharpest traders in the islands. He can get you the best possible deals. The people of Kiniwata all speak highly of Johnny Lingo. Yet, when they speak of him, they always smile just a little mockingly.

A couple days after my arrival to Kiniwata, I went to the manager of the guesthouse to see who he thought would be a good fishing guide. "Johnny Lingo," said the manager. "He’s the best around. When you go shopping, let him do the bargaining. Johnny knows how to make a deal."

"Johnny Lingo!" hooted a nearby boy. The boy rocked with laughter as he said, "Yea, Johnny can make a deal alright!"

"What’s going on?" I demanded.

"Everybody tells me to get in touch with Johnny Lingo and then they start laughing. Please, let me in on the joke."

"Oh, the people like to laugh," the manager said, shrugging. "Johnny’s the brightest and strongest young man in the islands. He’s also the richest for his age."

"But …" I protested. "… if he’s all you say he is, why does everyone laugh at him behind his back?"

"Well, there is one thing. Five months ago, at fall festival, Johnny came to Kiniwata and found himself a wife. He gave her father eight cows!"

I knew enough about island customs to be impressed. A dowry of two or three cows would net a fair wife and four or five cows would net a very nice wife.

"Wow!" I said. "Eight cows! She must have beauty that takes your breath away."

"She’s not ugly, …" he conceded with a little smile, "… but calling her ‘plain’ would definitely be a compliment. Sam Karoo, her father, was afraid he wouldn’t be able to marry her off. Instead of being stuck with her, he got eight cows for her. Isn’t that extraordinary? This price has never been paid before."

"Yet, you called Johnny’s wife ‘plain?’ "

"I said it would be a compliment to call her plain. She was skinny and she walked with her shoulders hunched and her head ducked. She was scared of her own shadow."

"Well," I said, "I guess there’s just no accounting for love."

"True enough." agreed the man. "That’s why the villagers grin when they talk about Johnny. They get special satisfaction from the fact the sharpest trader in the islands was bested by dull old Sam Karoo."

"But how?"

"No one knows and everyone wonders. All of the cousins urged Sam to ask for three cows and hold out for two until he was sure Johnny would pay only one. To their surprise Johnny came to Sam Karoo and said, ‘Father of Sarita, I offer eight cows for your daughter.’ "

"Eight cows." I murmured. "I’d like to meet this Johnny Lingo."

I wanted fish and pearls, so the next afternoon I went to the island of Nurabandi. As I asked directions to Johnny’s house, I noticed Johnny’s neighbors were also amused at the mention of his name. When I met the slim, serious young man I could see immediately why everyone respected his skills. However, this only reinforced my confusion over him.

As we sat in his house, he asked me, "You come here from Kiniwata?"

"Yes."

"They speak of me on that island?"

"Yes. They say you can provide me anything I need. They say you’re intelligent, resourceful, and the sharpest trader in the islands."

He smiled gently. "My wife is from Kiniwata."

"Yes, I know."

"They speak of her?"

"A little."

"What do they say?"

"Why, just … ." The question caught me off balance. "They told me you were married at festival time."

"Nothing more?" The curve of his eyebrows told me he knew there had to be more.

"They also say the marriage settlement was eight cows." I paused. "They wonder why."

"They ask that?" His eyes lighted with pleasure. "Everyone in Kiniwata knows about the eight cows?"

I nodded.

"And in Nurabandi, everyone knows it too?" His chest expanded with satisfaction. "Always and forever, when they speak of marriage settlements, it will be remembered that Johnny Lingo paid eight cows for Sarita."

So that’s the answer, I thought: Vanity.

Just then Sarita entered the room to place flowers on the table. She stood still for a moment to smile at her husband and then left. She was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. The lift of her shoulders, the tilt of her chin, and the sparkle in her eyes all spelled self-confidence and pride. Not an arrogant and haughty pride, but a confident inner beauty that radiated in her every movement.

I turned back to Johnny and found him looking at me.

"You admire her?" he murmured.

"She … she’s gorgeous." I said. "Obviously, this is not the one everyone is talking about. She can’t be the Sarita you married on Kiniwata."

"There’s only one Sarita. Perhaps, she doesn’t look the way you expected."

"She doesn’t. I heard she was homely. They all make fun of you because you let yourself be cheated by Sam Karoo."

"You think eight cows was too many?" A smile slid over his lips.

"No, but how can she be so different from the way they described her?"

Johnny said, "Think about how it must make a girl feel to know her husband paid a very low dowry for her? It must be insulting to her to know he places such little value on her. Think about how she must feel when the other women boast about the high prices their husbands paid for them. It must be embarrassing for her. I would not let this happen to my Sarita."

"So, you paid eight cows just to make your wife happy?"

"Well, of course I wanted Sarita to be happy, but there’s more to it than that. You say she is different from what you expected. This is true. Many things can change a woman. There are things that happen on the inside and things that happen on the outside. However, the thing that matters most is how she views herself. In Kiniwata, Sarita believed she was worth nothing. As a result, that’s the value she projected. Now, she knows she is worth more than any other woman in the islands. It shows, doesn’t it?"

"Then you wanted …"

"I wanted to marry Sarita. She is the only woman I love."

"But …" I was close to understanding.

"But," he finished softly, "I wanted an eight-cow wife."

Take the time to build the ones we love up, instead of tearing them down with our words. Words cut like a knife and will hurt the ones that we love the most. Are your words hurting or are they building the other up? We can either be the problem or help be the solution, our marriages, our relationships should be about building instead of tearing down.

Is it time to build up, I am writing another blog about our words and what the Bible says about words, I didn't realize how many places talk about words in the Bible.

The Blame Game

Romans 12:2 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

I have written about this over and over again, because I believe that we are called to stand and give account for our own actions. I must take the responsibility for my own actions, it is my choice to react one way or another. When I blame others for my own failings, I am no longer taking the responsibility that God has given me for myself. It is so easy to say I got angry, because someone did wrong to me, but that reaction is a choice that I made. Today the world blames others for what the choice they make, they say that they are doing it because of someone else, they are not taking the responsibility for their own actions. This is very dangerous and is a lie from the pit of Hell. God gave us the freedom of choice, He gave us the ability to know right from wrong. We know that we are wrong, but it is so much easier to say well I did it because they made me, or even better yet the devil made me do it. Isn't it time that we stand up for our own actions, we take responsibility for what we have done?

Today it is time to stand up for ourselves, it is time to take the responsibility for our own actions. It comes down to choices, stop blaming others and start saying Lord what can I do to be who you call me to be. We will not be able to say Lord someone made me do it, He will say Geoff it was your choice and if I say that it was someone else am I really looking at myself or am I more concerned with the speck in my brothers eye than the plank in mine?  Matthew 7:3 ""Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

Romans 5:1-5 "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."

Ephesians 4:31-32 "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

Luke 6:31
"And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them."
