Choices

What does the Bible say about Choices?

Isaiah 30:21 "And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." That verse lines it out, we have to make the choice not to turn right or left, but to walk in the path that God has lade out for us. We have the choice and we need to follow the instructions of the Lord.

Our thoughts may wander, but remember this in written in Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." It says to think on the good things, why because we are human and it is our nature to think on the other things.

We are given fair warning on many accounts in the bible, such as this one in Galatians 6:7-8 "Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life." Remember that we are not judged by man and what a man may see, but by God and God sees all things.

When someone yells at us, we have a choice to make, our human nature says yell back, but the Bible talks about this in Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." or in Romans 12:17 "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone." We are reminded that we have a choice, our human nature will desire to do wrong to those that do wrong to us. We see it all around us, but how we respond can set us apart from those people, because we have to make the right choice.

When we are with a group of friends and some of them are doing things that are not worthy of God, we have a choice to walk the way God wants us to walk or to join with the peer pressure. Our world says just do it, but God says Romans 12:2 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." or Galatians 1:10 "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."

It is about making the right choices. The world says we can't do it, but Jesus Christ has come not so we will have to be part of the world, but we will be part of Him, through the renewing of our minds, not just on Sunday, but every day. We need to be willing to allow Him to have His truths in our hearts, not just our minds. I can think I know so much about the Bible, but when the truth is hidden in my heart, they become part of who I am, my daily walk is not for myself, but for the Son of God who lives in me, it is for Jesus Christ. When I just have the knowledge it is not enough, I must have the heart to want to serve Him every day. Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." It can't be about what I want, but Jesus Christ in me.

We must put away our old selves and come alive in Jesus Christ. When we are water baptized it is a symbol of how our old selves are buried and we come alive in Jesus, we must be willing to let ourselves die to be born into Jesus. It is an act of something much greater then what we know. The old self centered way needs to be left in the water and we are filled with the holy spirit. We come alive in Him.
