What in life that lasts is easy? Our lives are made up of many things, but when I look at it, nothing that is easy lasts. Life takes work.
If I want a pretty garden, I need to work at it. I need to first plan it, lay it out, Then I have to dig up the grass, turn over the soil, maybe even add new soil. Then I need to chose the flowers and then I plant. After planting I may put in a barrier so weeds don't grow and then put in mulch. After all of that is complete, it isn't done, because weeds grow, the plants need to be watered, they need to be fed. It isn't just letting them be, because they may be able to take care of themselves, it is constant work. Keeping the weeds out is a task in itself, but the feeding and all of that is so important. But the garden will be beautiful only if I am willing to put the work into it all.
That scenario is so true in life too. If you want your garden (figurative speaking) to be beautiful, you have to put the work into every aspect of your life. Just the same as the garden, the weeds grow into our lives choking out the good plants, stealing the water and when that is allowed, then the garden will die. Even though we did all that work up front, it isn't enough, it is tending it.
Nothing in life that is worth having comes easy. You can play the lotto, but look at the people that have played, there are so many that have filed for bankruptcy, because they did not plan, it came easy and they lost it all. They didn't work at it.
In our lives, if we are not willing to work at things, we will see them dwindle and die. Our relationship with Jesus Christ, if we are not willing to put Him first, reading, praying, following His principles and commands we will become stagnate, we will be a branch that bears no fruit. And what does the gardener do with those branches? Isn't it time to do the work necessary, to feed the gardens of our life. It may be a lot of work, but the hard work will pay off. God says it, I believe it and that settles it for me.
