I have found the more we focus on God, the more we see Him go before us. It is the idea that we are putting Him first by continuing to focus on Him. No one person has all the answers, but God has all the answers. He is the only one, when things don't add up, who should we focus on? We can ask people, but you are going to get a wide range of answers, because people base how they respond to their past, but when we focus our eyes on Jesus, the question is no longer a question, because He is the answer.
Let me explain. If we are having an issue in our marriage, we don't feel the love we once did. We ask others around us what to do, we get a wide range of solutions, from divorce, to counseling and from one extreme to another. But if we change our focus from the question to the solution and that solution is keeping our eyes focused upward, the answer comes from Jesus. He is there to teach us how to love, how to be the partner we need to be, not because it makes sense, but because in giving Him more we ask less, we expect less and we are filled with His love and then we are able to give it freely, without expecting return. Just as we do with our kids, our love for them does not run out, because we love unconditionally, can we love our spouses unconditionally? Can we give and not expect return? Isn't that what love is all about?
When we focus our attention on Jesus, we are then filling ourselves with the answer, we are filling our head not with the questions, but with Him. Pray without ceasing, doesn't mean we have to be like Dear Lord..... We are just in a spirit of praise, thanksgiving and more moment by moment. I use to be upset by people taking the Lords name in vein, but now when it happens in my head, when the person does it, I say Lord be with that person, touch there life, move them in your way. Instead of focusing on the what they are doing wrong, I am asking God to touch them right where they are at. It is a constant change of focus. We can focus on the wrong or we can focus on blessing that person, praying for them. Our eyes are then focus on Him, not on the person. We bless them in the name of Jesus. They would not understand, they may even curse us, but we have then changed our focus to look to God, to seek Him in all things.
Our minds are so distracted with e-mails, phone calls, people coming to see us, text messages and everything else it is easy to lose focus, but instead of waiting for 5 minutes that are free, take 5 seconds and say Lord thank you for loving me. Lord bless so and so, Lord thank you, Lord be with... It doesn't say what kind of prayer to do, but to pray without ceasing, if we did that we wouldn't get our jobs done.
A habit is formed by doing intentionally, then it becomes something that is second nature. Take a moment to think about how you can focus more of Him and less of you. Moment by moment He changes me. Change our focus to put Him first, watch what happens. Do it with a spirit of thanksgiving, not that I am asking to much, but to honor God.
Have a wonderful Wednesday.
